I have used the Terratrip 303 on 3 rallies. I don't like it. On both the first 2 rallies the trip meter "lost" a kilometre or so. This only happened once on each event and I spotted it both times, but it makes me nervous about relying on the trip. On the 3rd event the trip failed completely - it appeared to be operational but it never read any distance. It has just been back to Terratrip and they repaired it under warranty. Maybe the fault caused the distance loss on the first events before the full failure and it will be fine now. At least I hope so.
The other issue I have with the Terratrip is that I don't find it intuitive to use. For me a trip meter should be obvious and I would rather have a simple meter I can just use than a sophisticated trip that I have to think about.
I have never used the Monit but have heard good things about it.

With the kind of events you do , such as the Artic Rally for instance could the fault be due to atmospheric conditions or was a definitive fault found with the unit?

No, I don't think it was the environment. The rallies where we had the problems were summer events in Estonia and Sweden and the conditions were no different to those you would regularly face in the UK. I can't comment on what the fault was because they sent the unit back without any explanation of what was wrong, just said it was a warranty job. The problem where it "lost" some distance was worrying because that could easily cause you miss a turning, or take the wrong turning. It happened to me twice. On the first occasion it was obvious because I remembered the route from the recce. On the second occasion I was following on the map so again I spotted the problem. It would be easy to miss it though, especially on an event without a recce - or where you took a different route on a road section on the recce.
